The 109th LA Auto Show Has Arrived

One of our most looked forward to events of the year is finally here! Open to the public November 18-27, the Los Angeles Auto Show is one of the most influential and best-attended auto shows in the world and this year won’t disappoint. Are you in the market for a new car? Do you want to check out the latest automotive tech or the latest concept cars? Do you just want to peruse all the custom cars in “The Garage”? Whatever you actually want to do, the LA Auto Show is your one-stop-shop for all things automotive. You can even test drive nearly 100 of the latest models just outside the LA Convention Center. It’s hard to believe that the LA Auto Show we know today started back in 1907.

No, That Is Not a Typo

The Los Angeles Auto Show really did start way back in 1907, before the assembly line, before Mother’s Day became a national holiday, before Prohibition, before J. Edgar Hoover was appointed the head of the Bureau of Investigation, and before the Great Depression. The first LA Auto Show had ninety-nine vehicles on display at Morley’s Skating Rink, but as the auto industry grew, so did the number of cars and the need for a larger venue became imminent. It was not always smooth sailing.

During the 1929 show, an electrical circuit in one of the airplane exhibits caught fire causing the entire show to go up in flames, causing more than $1 million in damage. That’s $1 million in 1929, which is almost $14 million today! Not to be stopped, the auto show reopened a day later at another venue. The auto show would run throughout the 30s quite successfully, however, once the Second World War started, it took a break from 1940-1951. It returned in 1952 with 152 vehicles on display, including those from international manufacturers.

Back to 2016

This year, more than 1,000 brand new 2017 and 2018 makes and models will be at the LA Auto Show – including vehicles making their global and North American debuts. Unfortunately, you can’t actually buy any of these cars, but you can speak with auto manufacturer representatives, who can connect you with a local dealer. If you’re really in the mood to shop, you can purchase aftermarket accessories and other auto-related products for sale in The Garage and certain manufacturer merchandise from their exhibits.

What Are You Waiting For?

Pick your day, buy your tickets, and go check out what the next few years of the automotive industry has to offer. It’ll either inspire you to get a new car, which, as an on-demand car wash service app, Vosh can help keep looking new, or, it’ll give you a new appreciation for your current car, which could probably use a car wash. It’s a good thing Vosh is available on a whim!
